OFFICIAL: Alex Ekubo's Family Confirms Death from Kidney Cancer

The family of Nollywood star Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke has officially confirmed the passing of the actor, ending hours of intense speculation across the Nigerian film industry. 

In a formal statement released via the actor’s verified Instagram page on Wednesday, the family disclosed that the actor passed away at Evercare Hospital in Lagos following a battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

While early reports suggested the actor was battling liver cancer, the official family statement clarifies that the cause of death was complications arising from metastatic kidney cancer. The family described his struggle as a "brief but courageous battle."

The statement highlighted Ekubo’s resilience during his illness:

"Throughout this difficult journey, he bore his pain with remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and enduring hope, believing that one day his testimony would be shared with the world," the family shared.

The Ekubo-Okwaraeke family has appealed to the public and the media for privacy as they mourn the "immense loss" of the man they described as a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend. 

The family also expressed gratitude for the global outpouring of love and support:

"We sincerely thank everyone for the love, support, prayers, and understanding extended to the family throughout this period."

According to the announcement, further details regarding the funeral arrangements and other family matters will be communicated in due course. 

Alexx Ekubo, a prominent figure in the Nigerian creative industry, was 40 years old at the time of his passing.
