Popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has reportedly died at the age of 40, according to multiple independent industry sources. This is a fast developing breaking story.

As at on Tuesday, the report has been corroborated by multiple Nollywood insiders, but no formal official statement has yet been released by Ekubo's family, management or official representatives.

Ekubo is reported to have passed away on Tuesday at a private hospital in Lagos, after an entirely private battle with stage 4 liver cancer. Multiple sources have stated that the actor had kept his diagnosis completely secret, and almost no one outside his immediate family was aware of his illness.

Alex Ekubo was one of the most recognisable and highest profile actors working in Nollywood, best known for his lead roles in dozens of romantic comedy and drama films over a 15 year career.
