Why The Delayed Rescue Of Abducted Children Is Raising Questions

Many Nigerians believe the government and political leaders have not done enough to demonstrate that every available effort is being made to secure the release of the abducted children and teachers, else how come Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, younger sister to former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons were rescued exactly three days after their  abduction by gunmen and the innocent school children and teachers who were also abducted by gunmen in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo state are still in captivity.

The prolonged captivity of the victims has raised fresh concerns about the effectiveness of the response from political leaders and security authorities. It will be recalled that the kidnapping of the school children and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo state community which occured on the 15th of May 2026 and up until date, there has not been any report of rescue operations been made towards the safe release of these captives.

How long will parents and loved ones of the victims wait to reunite with their family again, it's indeed heartbreaking. And some Nigerians are beginning to wonder how the police were able to get Intel that brought about the tracking down of kidnappers that were responsible for kidnapping Mrs Olaide and her twin. 

Does this mean that both cases are not treated with the same level of urgency from authorities.?

Looking at the situation, the successful rescue of Mrs. John-Paul and her children has led many to wonder whether similar intelligence breakthroughs can be achieved in the Oriire kidnapping case.

According to the Oyo state commissioner of police, there were intelligence which led to the discovery of the kidnapper's hideout. So why not gathered same Intel, why is the school children's case different.

It's been over three weeks since the abduction and Nigerians are no longer sure if the case is treated as high priority because

many residents believe the measures announced so far have not produced the results families are hoping for. The president made a speech on children's day, May 27 assuring parents and loved ones of the victims that they have not been forgotten or abandoned. 

"To those children, their parents, and their teachers, I say this as a father and your President: you are not forgotten. You are not abandoned."

However, weeks after that assurance, many families and residents say they are still waiting for visible signs of progress that could lead to the safe return of the victims.

Because rather than sending officials to take food stuff to the victim's parents as though that is their major concern why not work on how to get credible intel and the next step to take to pinpoint possible enemy location. 

Some Nigerians believe if the government treat this Oyo kidnapping as the highest level of urgency, result would long be out and these victims would have reunite with their families.

Interestingly, according to a new video footage that surfaced from the kidnappers through the principal of the school, Mrs. Rachael Alamu who is also a victim said in the video after being pushed to say  that the kidnappers needed some of their members to be released from government custody in exchange for the children to be released but what is the government saying about this new development. I think they can actually exploit this means to track the kidnappers down, but the I billion dollar question is how do they plan to achieve this?.

And to think that the First Lady, Remi Tinubu is not fully involved in this development has led some critics to question whether enough public attention is being given to the plight of the abducted children and their families.

While people who are not in anyway related to the victim's families are out there protesting for the rescue of the school children, she is more focus on distributing car gift to people she calls women leader of their political party, APC. Does this action reflect as good leadership? This is rather a definition of 'Misplaced Priority' 

Insecurity can not be a concern in the state, and her focus is divided. As First Lady, some Nigerians expect her to play a more visible humanitarian role during national crises affecting children and families. For starters, frequent visit to victim's families and loved ones to show empathy and concern, but it seems she is more focus on political activities on her husband's  behalf whom some Nigerians are currently unhappy with because of the country's presence economic situation due to his reform policies.

Speaking on the reforms, these reforms has not only placed the average Nigerian on edge, but has made life even more difficult for them. Take a look at security, light, education, water and road that are supposed to be basic amenities a government should give it's people, but the reverse is the case. 

The insecurity continues to up the chart everyday with different cases of kidnapping, terrorism, and banditry taking place in different regions in the country. Cases of people being killed, kidnapped, robbed, even beheaded by bandits.

The security system has being compromised, Food prices are high, fuel is high, cooking gas has skyrocketed even house rentage has drastically increased in a space of three years. How can this be a good economic reform. 

This is why all Nigerians must open their eyes and vote with their conscience. One way forward now is for all Nigerians, old and young alike to get their PVC and stand their ground to vote the right candidate in the coming 2027 presidential election. We all have to monitor the election closely even with the new electoral act INEC plan on implementing, every youth must say no to exploitation, intimidation, bribery and selling of votes because the future of Nigeria depends on it.
